Product Details

This striking copper panel diptych captures the essence of a serene and natural landscape with an abstract, earthy perspective. Each panel features a rich, textured palette on copper – deep blues, and mossy greens, evoking a sense of weathered beauty.

On the left, two graceful ginkgo leaves unfurl in brilliant blue, their delicate veins contrasting with a large, mysterious, raven form below. The right panel shows a single, prominent ginkgo leaf in a shimmering coppery hue, grounded by a flowing blue form that suggests a tranquil river.

Scattered flecks of metallic copper and vibrant blue throughout both panels tie the panels together and add a dynamic, luminous quality, reminiscent of sunlight on water or a forest floor.

About G. Sanford McGee

McGee is a native of Beersheba Springs, on the Cumberland plateau in southeast Tennessee. Having taught biology for eighteen years, his academic background is in the sciences. Now he is bringing elements of ecology, botany, and zoology into his works of art on copper.

Beginning with sheets of copper, plant materials and botanicals that he has collected, McGee applies a series of washes over the copper; which allows the materials to etch and patina with time. The markings left behind vary by combination of color with the different chemical compositions reacting with the copper, some of them red, yellow, blue, green.

The process can take place during an entire season or year, all the while taking away and adding to the surfaces.
